With Additional Freetime, you can now buy time for import container detention for a shipment at a discounted amount in addition to the free time tariffs or to your current contractual agreements.

Additional Freetime is available for our customers in every country that Hapag-Lloyd operates in. You can buy up to 15 extra days through this service.

How to purchase Additional Freetime

You can purchase Additional Freetime with just a few clicks

  1. After submitting your online booking, please click on the button “Check Freetime Options”. If you have an existing booking, you can also purchase Additional Freetime via the Hapag-Lloyd Navigator.
  2. You can then choose your preferred Additional Freetime day packages, agree to the terms & conditions and click

  • You can purchase Additional Freetime immediately after having placed a booking via our Web Booking.
  • You can also use our Hapag-Lloyd Navigator if you have an existing booking to purchase Additional Freetime.
  • You can purchase Additional Freetime for Detention Destination at time of booking placement until the vessel arrives at the destination port.
  • The purchased Additional Freetime days will count on top of the applicable free days as per the tariff or individual agreements.

Additional Freetime is currently only offered for 20ft standard shipping container, 40ft standard shipping container and 40ft standard high cube shipping container.

Following Containers are excluded from Additional Freetime: containers with Dangerous Goods, reefers (operated or non-operated) and Special Equipment (in gauge or Out of Gauge).

Freetime packages are available for all countries globally from 09. April 2020.

You can purchase Additional Freetime in the following timeframe:
Detention Destination: The purchase of free time is available from the time of placing a booking until the gate out empty date of the container. Soon, it will be available for a longer purchase timeframe (until the vessel arrives at port of discharge).

Additional Freetime will be offered at a discounted amount of the local freetime tariff and will be charged in local currency. The exact amount per container per day will be visible to you right before you purchase Additional Freetime. For further information, please contact your local Sales representative.

Yes, for the very beginning, only Detention Destination will be offered. No purchase of Demurrage and Storage are currently possible.

Additional Freetime will be confirmed by an automated confirmation e-mail, which will be triggered to the purchasing user at the time of purchase.


You can buy Additional Freetime in three ways:

A: Log in to the Hapag-Lloyd Online Business and place your booking via our Web Booking. Additional Freetime will be available after you have completed your booking.

B: Enter your login credentials and log in to Hapag-Lloyd’s Additional Freetime product and enter your shipment number.

C: Enter your login credentials and log in to the Hapag-Lloyd Navigator. Additional Freetime will be available for your shipment in the section Additional Products.

Yes, the product Additional Freetime will be added on top of the tariff or individual customer freetime agreements. You can purchase up to 15 days.

No, the package must be paid entirely and is not refundable if unused.
